Rantings of a Psuedo Quasi Mind

People. People bug me right now. More importantly, people who criticize those who dare to be different; the ones who stand up for what they believe in, for who they are. If you don't fit a certain mold, move over. We live in a society where free speech is a right, yet those who exercise it, live in fear.

At the forefront of my mind right now comes Natalie Maines, lead singer of Dixie Chicks; she chose to exercise her right to free speech with her thoughts on George W. Bush. Look where that got her - her band is banned from US radio waves. HUH?!?! Free Speech is a right, America! You are the first ones to push this. She recieved death threats on the dozens due to her remarks that fateful night in London. Freedom os speech does not include threatening the lives of others, people!

People who forget that celebrities are people, too. The tabloids have been increasingly getting out of hand lately. While I, ashamed as much to admit it, revel in good gossip and celebrity antics, as of late, these 'journalists' have been reporting outright lies. Making things up in order to sell copies. David Beckham, Kate Moss, Cameron Diaz, etc have all taken on these 'magazines' and won lawsuits for libel, etc. Yet the lies continue. They invade the privacy to the point of harassment, never once stopping to think that these people are just that: PEOPLE. Yes, they choose to live their lives in an occupation that ultimately brings them to the public eye, but shouldn't there be boundaries? Limits?

Why is North America so consumed by physical perfection? Why does it in turn criticize those who aim to achieve it? In order to be a leading lady in todays entertainment industry, you must be a size 0, physically flawless. Of course women everywhere are going to feel this pressure. Those who force themselves into unhealthy habits to make themselves more like the mold are outcast. Hello, you told them this was what they had to be in order to be accepted, and now that they are, they are still not worthy. It's no wonder people in North America have developed complexes to the point of mental illness and physical torture. No one is safe.

Why do the words gay and scandal often only get used together? What is so scandalous about being gay? Why is it a scandal to find George Michael involved in adult activities with another man? Yes, it should not have been in a public restroom, but that it neither lewd or scandlous. I also choose to believe that he was, indeed set up that fateful day. Does anyone realize this mans lifestory is so much more than whether he 'comes out' or not? He is an extremely talented and gifted individual, who has experieced so much in his personal and professional life, yet this one 'scandal' blemishes to the brink of insanity! Does anyone even know that he still sells records all over the world?? North America isn't all that's in existance. If he had been caught in the restroom with a woman, would anyone still remember it? Doubtfull.

Food for thought I suppose. More ramblings to follow.....
